Willard continues MARS season at Sycamore and Macon
Brennon Willard returned to the dirt over the weekend, driving his Willard Asphalt No. 3 Super Late Model in a pair of MARS Late Model Championship shows in the Land of Lincoln.
On Friday evening, Willard was one of 30 MARS Late Model competitors at the 3/8-mile Sycamore (Illinois) Speedway. He was unable to make the feature through his heat race, but nabbed the fifth and final transfer spot in his B-Main. He started the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win main event from 20th position and registered a 23rd-place result with a DNF.
The MARS schedule shifted to Macon (Illinois) Speedway on Saturday for the 11th annual KerbyStrong event. With 23 MARS Late Models in the pit area at the 1/5-mile oval, Willard finished seventh in one of three heats. He began the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Main from 19th on the grid and was scored 14th in the final rundown, despite retiring early.
Willard is currently 11th in the MARS Late Model Championship point standings, just one marker out of the 10th spot.
